What: A series of dinners and informal conversations around topics of interdisciplinarity within the fields of art, architecture, crafts, design and beyond.
My role: Co-founder and organizer along with cultural mediator Anne Pfennig (also responsible for communication, documentation and development of the concept) and product designer Jonatan Lennman.
During the postgraduate course Organising Discourse at Konstfack in Stockholm, Anne Pfennig, Jonatan Lennman and myself initiated a dinner series gathering people from different disciplines in an informal and intimate dinner setting.
It was put into action in the spring of 2015, and was founded upon a desire to bring people together across disciplines to discuss collaborative structures and the need for knowledge-exchange across professional boundaries. Each evening staged a certain topic of conversation, related to the local setting and the professional backgrounds of the invited guests.
The first three dinners, planned as small personal gatherings, took place in the organiser’s private homes. A dinner was also arranged during Repair Society: Ringvägen, and a mobile version of the concept (developed by Jonatan and Anne) was staged during Botkyrka konsthall´s community event during Fittja Open.
The guests have thus far included students from Konstfack (Interior design, Jewellery Design, Fine Arts, Design), a musician/rapper, a project manager within mural art/social work, curators, artists, architects, a journalist/activist, and a yoga teacher.
Topics of conversation have revolved a lot around the lack of interdisciplinary structures in institutional and educational settings, and its connection to an oftentimes homogenous working environment within these fields. Strategies, insights and approaches to break these patterns have also been discussed. During Repair Society: Ringvägen, different relationships to the concept of repair was discussed, and during Fittja Open, the mobile DISHCOURSE became a meeting point for informal exchange between local resident, art centre staff and participants of the pedagogical programs of the art centre.
